Paddy Steer 20.00 Gulbenkian Theatre

Promoter: Coastal Electronauts

Who is this alien with a golden cape and papier-mâché space helmet? Is he really playing wobbly racks of analog synthesisers, a keyboard, drum kit, shakers, a glockenspiel and a vocoder, all at the same time? Can he even see what he’s doing? Sonic tinkerer Paddy Steer dives into the realms of lo-fi pop, new age, acid jazz and cosmic funk like a kid with a new box of crayons.

Splink Promoter: Crash of Moons Club

21.00 Colyer-Fergusson Hall

Influenced by Frank Zappa, the Canterbury Scene, Hawkwind and Fairport Convention, Splink create what they call NO RULES MUSIC. If it sounds good and touches the soul, then why not? Should they wish to dip into a section of Holst, Dub Reggae, Space Funk / Disco, an Arabian Tarantella or create an entire Neo-Gothic Cowboy Waltz (!)... all can and will be included in the music of SPLINK!

Chewy She 22.00 Gulbenkian Theatre

Promoter: Smugglers/Free Range

Chewy She is an electro-disco-punk band from London, blending glittery disco grooves with punk rock energy. Known for wild, immersive live shows that mix humour, absurdity, and feminist themes, their performances feel like a chaotic, campy fairytale where the audience is part of the action.

‘An absolutely mind blowing show, I am a big fan’ (Cerys Matthews, BBC Radio 6)

Avalanche Kaito 23.00 Colyer-Fergusson Hall

Promoters: Smugglers/Free Range

Ancestral griot music from Burkina Faso mixed with punk combining a seductive trance power with a wicked experimental side.

‘Like all the best punk, Avalanche Kaito's music is confrontational and abrasive, but also playful and with a great sense of fun’ (Songlines)

'Avalanche Kaito is a fully functional hardcore transmission, channelling solid state spirits  in abrasive, glitching tongues. Winse yelps and declaims refixed elder scrolls, Chaval and  Gitto initiate the launch phase on broken mech-punk rockets, and the whole affair gives the impression of exigent new rituals being improvised at the edge of panic’ (The Wire)
